Can two people make a living off of teaching private English lessons in Calabria, Italy?

My girlfriend and I would like to make a living in Italy. We are both college graduates with experience in education. Do you have any other ideas about how to make a living in Southern Italy?

Where are you coming from? If you're from the EU, you can live and work here legally. If you're not from the EU, you need a visa to live and work here. See: http://www.esteri.it/visti/index_eng.asp for nformation on Italian visas. In many towns here, including the one where I live in northern Italy, there are language schools that provide instruction. The English teachers tend to be young people hired from the UK hired on short term contracts at relatively low pay. The cost of the courses provided by the schools generally isn't too bad and companies that do international business often send employees to the local schools for lessons. Teaching privately, you'd be competing against that. I wouldn't count on being able to make very much just doing private lessons especially in the current economy.
