Live in downtown San Diego?

My wife and I are relocating to San Diego and we are looking to live Downtown. We found a building called the Billboard Lofts located on 320 W. Ash Street, (on the corner of Ash & Union). I am unsure about this area because it's neither in Little Italy or the Gaslamp District. Does anyone know about that area, Crime, Noise, etc? Any help would be great!!

Answer on Live in downtown San Diego?

Downtown is cleaner than most. Noise can be a problem in older buildings that were not constructed with soundproofing materials so check the age of the building and if it has sound upgrading like dual pane windows etc. Crime can be a small problem but not bad. Make sure they offer a secure parking garage unless you take public transportation.
