Answer on In what ways was Mussolini PERSONALLY responsible for becoming prime minister of Italy?
Well he was filling a gap. There was no real power and his party - the Fascists - were the only real power in the country politically at the time.
In 1922 Mussolini threatened to seize power militarily if he was not taken into the Cabinet. Bands of Fascists (armed by sympathetic army officers) began to march on Rome and the government crumbled with the prime minister resigning and the king afraid to call out the army in case of civil war. The king also, however, appreciated that Mussolini could bring strong government and order to the country.
On 31st October 1922 Mussolini was asked by King Victor Emmanuel to form a government which he did with a coalition of Fascists, Nationalists, Catholics, and right-wing Liberals.
Mussolini was thus given control of the country.
